Lucy is a conceptual artist working with performance, installation, video and painting. Her work investigates the construction of identity as she experiments with different characters and personas often modelled off the people closest to her. Her process this year, involved collaborating with a close friend, recording their conversations and borrowing their clothing and keepsakes which she collated into an archive for her work. The objects are copied and reproduced or even combined with props in order to create fabrications of memories and places. The clothes become costumes paired with cheap wigs and poorly applied makeup documenting the dressing up process. Through her process, her failure to emulate becomes evident as the original identity gets lost in the obsession of the subject. The artificiality of these performances and works serve as a metaphor for the artificial amalgamation of identity.
