Collection: Chloe Shanahan
Chloe Shanahan is an emerging performance artist working in Sydney. Her practice stems from documenting personal experiences that represent aspects of her identity displayed in a haunting, yet intimate manner, exploring the conflicting expression of human vulnerability, between isolation, solace and calamity. Human as well as natural factors of movement merge together throughout her works to create an authentic yet surreal interpretation of an individual’s mentality interfering with the environment currently surrounding them, contributing in making a performative deconstruction of observation and subject matter. With the direction stemming from her interactions and current headspace linked in her art-making, her aim as an artist is to connect with the audience on a personal level through her therapeutic deconstruction of the human condition.
“Growing up as a dancer, I find movement to be one of the most expressive forms of artistry. It was a way to deconstruct my emotions as well as confront my trauma and adversity through my body. No need for words, just a surreal image of someone showcasing their vulnerabilities, the same way I feel towards art-making”
