Debbie Rogers (born Mackay, Queensland, lives and works in Maitland, New South Wales) is a multidisciplinary collage-based artist. Primarily engaging with painting, photography, and sculpture, she brings an installation focus to the diverse range of media and materials she works with. Her methods of cutting, pinning, gluing, and stitching provide a bridge to past female traditions, histories, and lineages in her process-oriented practice. Her layered and tactile investigations invite conversations that interrogate the cultural identity of Australian women in an evolving contemporary regional context.
Through the transformative process of deconstruction, ideas and meanings relating to the body, home, kinship, and traditions are disassembled and recombined in new ways. These fresh interpretations play on the familiar and ambiguous, the ordinary and unexpected, drawing the viewer into the pictorial space through curiosity and uncertainty. Debbie Rogers is an artist who quietly but consistently pushes the boundaries of her creativity, inviting viewers to explore the intricacies of the human experience through her unique lens.
