Working from observation, memory and imagination, Elena’s work celebrates the environments we inhabit, and our connections with the beings with whom we share the world. Growing up in rural NSW on Bundjalung Land in the Northern Rivers, much of Elena’s childhood was spent playing outside and helping her family on their fruit orchard. This early love for other animals and the outside world continues to influence her, and ecological issues further motivate the focus of her work. Working both en plein air and in the studio, Elena’s work explores the sensorial experience of being outside and expresses a reverence for the earth we share.

In 2022, she was awarded First Prize in the 9x5 Landscape Prize and a grant from The William Fletcher Foundation. She has had two solo exhibitions (2021, 2022) at Project Gallery 90 in Sydney and exhibited in numerous group shows at galleries such as Backwoods Gallery, Montsalvat, Saint Cloche and Lismore Regional Gallery. She was an artist in residence at the Dunmoochin Foundation 2019-2021, and Beverley Art Station in 2018.
