Georgina Bedwell is an emerging Australian abstract painter, whose practice delves into the power of sensation, by considering the interconnectedness between the self and the natural world. Through intuitive manipulations of gesture and colour, she draws on memory and phenomenology as usual life-systems for recollecting time and place. Georgina simultaneously champions the importance of plein air investigation within her practice, by channelling an intuitive intellect, that directly responds to her environment. She likens this practice to a form of “inward meditation,” in which she seeks to express the internalised emotion of lived experience within the natural world. Through the liberation of materiality, Georgina invites a subtle interplay of receding and emerging colour to the forefront of her large-scale compositions, through a deep palette of earthy ink. In doing so, a soft expansiveness of coiled energy and sound emerges, creating an enigmatic and intimate atmosphere.
