Originally from Malaysia, Soon Fatt Tang has made Sydney his artistic home, infusing his background in mathematics into his art with a logical and analytical perspective. Prior to diving into the art world, he spent 14 years as a business development manager, gaining valuable experience in Malaysia and China. This corporate chapter honed his problem-solving skills, seamlessly integrated into his artistic pursuits.
Creating art is akin to solving intricate puzzles for Tang. As an immigrant, he grapples with the complexities of cultural identity, navigating the diaspora that places him between two distinct cultures. He delves into rich mythological narratives to explore these intricate issues and emotions. Reimagining ancient myths within a contemporary context, he breathes new life into classical mythologies through his imaginative cosmologies. This approach helps him translate abstract concepts into tangible and symbolic elements, articulating the essence of identity through visual metaphor. His aim is to celebrate and preserve the cultural heritage embedded within mythology.
Tang was recently named a finalist in the Fisher's Ghost Art Award.
