@LEICHHEART
Max Perkins (b. 2003) is an expanded printmedia artist practicing on Gadigal country (Sydney). Perkins’ work engages with themes of duplication, considering the print matrix as both a womb and coffin for image-making. Through extending traditional printmaking techniques into considerations of the third dimension, Perkins reflects on the sculptural potential of the print medium. Exploring themes of the vanity of consumer production and the unseen mechanisms of things, Perkins’ practice centres around shifting the legibility of his subjects. He questions the definition of abstraction by distorting forms through the physical and chemical processes of printmaking. These material processes enable Perkins to explore the point at which the unknown becomes familiar, and when the everyday becomes alien.
