Maeve Ralph is a Sydney based artist, whose works speak to the nostalgia of teen-hood by adopting a journalistic approach to painting. Her feminine works invoke the bedroom decorations that adorn the sickly sweet pastel walls, chosen in a pre adolescent haze we come to regret. By employing chalky house paint and wonky geometric patterning she mimics the domestic spaces they occupy. The undulating line-work that structure the paintings allude to the wooden slats of her weatherboard childhood home, as well as the lined pages in a journal. Ralph includes visible pencil marks that speak to the remnants of desktop graffiti, or the scribbles one makes on a spare piece of paper over a long phone call.
