Leopold Hauser tregloan is an artist concerned with the articles that surround us. Serving his work from the semiotics of objects, Leopold plays with the audience's everyday experiences with furniture. His material practice involves the reconstruction of found furniture as an exploration of modernist design, bricolage aesthetics, and philosophies of making.
Leopold considers the purpose of furniture, working to disable its original function. Furniture invites us to interact in specific ways such as the incline of a horizontal surface or the padding on a vertical surface. In its recognisable features, furniture also provides instructions for use in its implication of the absent body.
The work evolves in a series of iterative interactions with the material, whereby the normal prompts for the body and its props are undermined or denied.
