Josephine’s painting practice uses narrative and the materiality of paint to create space for the viewer to make their own stories. Her playful, figure-based scenarios engage the viewer while at the same time disrupting the assumptions that often underpin it. While at NAS, her work has explored our increasing aversion to risk taking, with her paintings constructing a world made up of these ever-narrowing comfort zones that we have little motivation to leave.
