Haylie-Jayde Atkins is a young Australian woman residing in Eora/Sydney. Her current practice is experimental, serving as a steppingstone in the use of traditional modes of printmaking in collaboration with Artificial Intelligence to create a work. Exploring the nexus of artistic originality and AI to create harmony within the debate of creative authorship. Demonstrating an interception of traditional mediums and innovative technologies to highlight the essence of artistic originality in the age of AI and technology, questing the theory and experimentation through the materiality of printmaking. Using a heat press transfer image of AI generated image onto a copper plate, the work is treated with a traditional aquatint process and then printed. The artwork creates a dialogue between the human tradition of labor and imagination with the machine ingenuity raising questions about authenticity and authorship of works that involve AI. By combining the two fields of study, Haylie-Jayde elevates the discussion about the relevance of AI and art in the ever-changing, technological world we live in today, as well as the possible evolution of art and its relationship to the artist. The imagery consists of native Australian flora that relates to her identity as someone who grew up in rural Australia connecting the labor process to not only the process of art making but also to my own identity and its relevance in modern art making and further questioning the role of the artist.
