Ella Harris is an Australian multidisciplinary artist residing in Darug Country/Sydney. Her practice concerns the quasi-reality that arises when we, by psychological necessity, narrativise and mythologise our own experiences. She employs the aesthetic language of the ethereal - concerning phenomena of otherworldly delicacy - to portray her daydreams. Her most recent body of paintings, “An empty room fits you perfectly”, is comprised of intimate vignettes that oscillate tentatively between the real and the imagined. Pearlescent bodies are avatars of tenuous visions, wistful and pensive in mirage-like atmospheres. Beguiling surfaces glisten and iridesce.
Ella grew up by the Dyarubbin/Hawkesbury River in NSW. In 2020 she undertook a Diploma of Fine Art at Meadowbank TAFE, where she honed her skill in life drawing and won the Noel Chettle Memorial Art Prize. In 2022 she exhibited twice with the Make Space Collective in Wollongong, and in 2023 was featured in the group show Nous at Goodspace Gallery. She is nearing the completion of her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School.
