Astrid Davis is a young artist living and working in Eora/Sydney. Astrid started at the National Art School in 2021. Astrid’s medium is painting and works with any accessible material, including found objects and discarded canvas. Her work uses a distinct visual language and looks at the debris and mundanity of our every day and how that can be communicated through the intuitive nature of painting. She depicts these moments, objects, people and places whilst attempting to blur the field of representation; aiming to question our memory of the everyday.
The depiction of mundane everyday moments becomes a way for Astrid to digest and process her surroundings; forcing the viewer to similarly question and reflect on their everyday.
Influenced by her surroundings, Astrid’s most recent body of works explores her connection to places, people and objects she interacts with frequently, and the rituals we make with them. Her work is lighthearted and hopes to create a sense of curiosity within the viewer.
