Amber Johnston is a multidisciplinary Australian artist living on Wangal Land, Sydney. Her work spans a variety of media including fibre-art, assemblage, print-making and painting and she explores unusual combinations of materials to organically create works. Amber’s art practice is process-based and immersive. She views the physical act of making work as of equal importance to the final product, itself indicative of a meditative moment in time. Mindful of superficiality and detachment in our frenetic modern world Amber contrasts these with notions of self-awareness and balance intrinsic to the human condition. Largely abstract her works convey a sense of calm through the use of repetition and monotone colour, encouraging viewers to look beyond the material world and into a place of inner peace. In this sense Amber’s art practice is a conduit for transcendence, an expression of the artist’s soul, searching for a sense of purpose and meaning through creative works.
