Grant Bellamy (b. 2001, Sydney) is an emerging artist working with painting and performance. His work draws from the history of Clownery as an artistic discipline as well as Western cartoon tropes. Using these influences he investigates the role of image in visual culture and its complicity in the reproduction of cultural norms through humour. The Clown is a figure of transgression and divine madness in Bellamy’s paintings. With bright colours but a dark underbelly he aims to bring out the carnivalesque of painting.
